Who was Morty Gunty?

Morty Gunty was an actor and comedian well known among New York comedians in the 1960s and 1970s. Gunty appeared on Ed Sullivan February 23, 1964, following The Beatles He appeared as himself in the Woody Allen film Broadway Danny Rose. In addition to being a night-club comic, he had a children's TV show in the mid-1960s and appearred on Broadway in 1967. He played Buddy Sorrell in the original pilot for The Dick Van Dyke Show, which was titled Head of the Family. He also played Ann Marie's agent turned comedian on an episode of That Girl.

Gunty died of cancer July 15, 1984.
