Who was Nelly Kilpatrick?
Nelly or Nellie Kilpatrick, later Nelly Bone. Nelly is a nickname for 'Helen.' Some authors give her birth as being in 1760. Nelly may have been the daughter of John Kilpatrick, the miller and his wife Jane Reid of Perclewan Mill near Dalrymple. She was baptised on 1 March 1759. Nelly is sometimes suggested as being Robert Burns's first love.
