Who is Newt Wallen?

A creative force behind the popular web series Underbelly, Wallen has had his hands in several film productions over the last 10 years as a consultant, actor, artist or on the production crew. As well as a driving force in the theatrical screenings of classic films in the Philadelphia area.

Wallen has also dipped into the comic book field working with Arcana Studios.

In 2021, he worked on 26 of 31 episodes for Cinemassacre's Monster Madness. It was discovered upon release of the first video that Wallen had plagiarized word for word Cecilia Sayad's 28 Days Later... review written for Film Comment in 2003. The second video in the series also contained plagiarism, this time for the Peter Jackson film Bad Taste and material stolen from ScreenAge Wasteland's review. It is unknown how much he plagiarized for the other 24 reviews, as they were then thoroughly vetted, re-edited, and in some cases completely redone before being uploaded for the annual show. Wallen has offered no apology or explanation for his actions.
