Who was Purcell Powless?
Purcell Powless was the tribal chairman of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, United States.
He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II and worked as a steel worker. In 1967 he was elected tribal chairman of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin serving until 1990. During his administration the Oneida Bingo and Casino was open.
