Who is Rabbi Ilai II?
Rabbi Ilai was a Jewish Amora sage of the Land of Israel, of the third generation of the Amora sages era, living at the end of the 3rd century and the beginning of the 4th. He was a disciple of R. Yochanan bar Nafcha and R. Shimon ben Lakish. Among his disciples, one can find the leading figures of the Amora fourth generation, such as Rav Jonah, Rav Zera, Ravin and more.
