Who is Sahane Sultan Muftuoglu?

Sahane Sultan Muftuoglu is a Turkish academician and political researcher.

She was born in Istanbul. Her descendants are from the Black Sea region of Turkey, Crimea, Thessaloniki and Arbil.

Sahane Sultan Muftuoglu studied Political Science and International Relations in England, University of Reading between 1997 and 2001. She has also completed her Master's degree at the University of Reading on International Studies and wrote her thesis on Turkey’s Foreign Policy Alternatives to Membership with the EU.

She has worked as a stagiere and research assistant at Geneva Center for Security Policy in Switzerland in 2004.

On her return to Turkey, she was elected as a member of the executive committee of People's Ascent Party in 2006 which was led by Prof. Yasar Nuri Ozturk. She served at the Turkish Parliament as a political consultant to the party leader of People`s Ascent Party.

In the 2007 general elections, she ran as a MP candidate of People`s Ascent Party from the city of Antalya. She was one of the very few young Turkish women in politics, running for parliamentary elections. She has faced malicious accusations and attacks in the Turkish media by opponents within and outside the party during her political life.
