Who was Wilhelm Meyn?

Wilhelm Meyn was a highly decorated Oberleutnant in the Luftwaffe during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. During his career he flew 721 missions and was credited with 26 aerial victories. Wilhelm Meyn was captured by British troops in May 1945 and was released a few months later. In 1956 he joined the Bundeswehr and rose to the rank of Generalmajor, retiring in 1979.
