Who was William Kerr?

William Kerr, served as Mayor of Pittsburgh from 1845 to 1847.

William Kerr was born in St. Clair Township. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He opened an office on Liberty Avenue in 1833, and was also was the owner of an Apothecary.

During Mayor Kerr term as mayor as The Pennsylvania Railroad was founded, as well as Mercy Hospital.

After his term in office, Kerr moved to Chartier's Township, which is now the West End of Pittsburgh. There exists today a Kerr Street in the city neighborhood of Elliott. Kerr died in 1853 and is buried in Allegheny Cemetery.
