Who is Yekaterina Chemberdzhi?

Yekaterina Chemberdzhi is a Russian pianist and composer. She was born in Moscow and began her study of music at age 7. In 1978 she studied composition and piano at the Moscow Conservatory with Nikolai Korndorf and Yuri Cholopov.

After ending her studies, Chemberdzhi took a position from 1984-90 teaching at the Moscow Gnessin College of Music. In 1990 she moved to Berlin and in 2003 took a teaching position at the Paul Hindemith Music School for children. She has been active in international festivals and has composed film music for several Russian and German films. In 2007 she played a role in Rudolph Thome's film Das Sichtbare und das Unsichtbare.
