Who was Alessandra Macinghi?
Alessandra Macinghi was a 15th-century Florentine woman. She lost her parents at an early age, and was married to Matteo Strozzi when she was about 14. The Strozzi family was then one of the more influential merchant and diplomatic families of the city. The couple had eight children; five of them, three sons, survived infancy. Some of her letters to her three sons were preserved. They were published by Cesare Guasti in 1877. These letters throw light on the domestic life in Italy in the 15th century, especially the life of the female members in a household.
