Who is Alex Douglas?

Alexander Rodney "Alex" Douglas is an Australian politician who is the member for Gaven in the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Douglas was first elected to the seat for the National Party at a 2006 by-election, but was defeated only months later at the 2006 state election. He unsuccessfully contested the House of Representatives seat of Fadden at the 2007 federal election, but won Gaven back at the 2009 state election, and was successful again at the 2012 state election, this time representing the newly merged Liberal National Party.

In late 2012, Douglas resigned from the LNP to sit as an independent. The following year he joined the United Australia Party, and served as its parliamentary leader from June 2013 until August 2014, when he resigned from the position and the party.
