Who is Andrea Gyarmati?

Andrea Gyarmati is a Hungarian retired female swimmer. She won two medals at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

Her mother and coach, Éva Székely was a breaststroke swimmer who won the gold medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. Her father Dezső Gyarmati was a champion in water polo.

Gyarmati married and later divorced Mihály Hesz, winner of the K-1 1000 m canoeing event at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.

She was named Hungarian Sportswoman of The Year three times between 1970 and 1972 after having won the European title in 1970 and two Olympic medals in 1972.

She graduated from the Budapest University of Medical Sciences and is working as a medical doctor. Her son Máté Hesz is a sportsman, as well
