Who was Andreas von Graben?
Andreas von Graben zu Sommeregg was a Carinthian knight and Burggraf, who residence at castle Sommeregg.
Andreas von Graben was a descendent of the Von Graben von Stein family, who sprang out from the dynastie Meinhardiner, who ruled the County of Görz, County of Tyrol and the Duchy of Carinthia. He was born as the son of Friedrich I von Graben and Katharina von Summeregk; Friedrich II von Graben was a brother of him. Andreas von Graben was captain of Ortenburg and also Burggraf and knight of Castle and Lordship Ortenburg. Since 1442 Von Graben ruled the castle and the Lordship of Sommeregg as Burggraf in the name of the Counts of Celje and their following dynastie of Habsburg. His wife was Barbara Hallecker, and their son Virgil von Graben became his succeeder as Burggraf of Sommeregg. Sommeregg became the family refuge for many years. In 1450 he was also named as Burggraf of Sternberg, near Wernberg.
Andreas` sister Veronica von Graben was married to Philipp Breuner, and Elisabeth von Graben married with Georg von Auersperg.
