Who is Asiya Andrabi?

Syed Asiya Andrabi, an Kashmiri political figure, is the founding leader of Dukhtaran-e-Millat. This Islamic group is part of the separatist All Parties Hurriyat Conference in the Kashmir valley. The main aim of the organisation is the imposition of Islamic law in Kashmir as well as separation from India.

She was arrested on 28 August 2010 by Jammu and Kashmir Police and charged with unlawful activities, waging war against the country and inciting violence.

Ms. Andrabi married Mr. Faktoo, the founder “chief commander” of Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen who is serving a life term in the Srinagar Central Jail for his conviction in the assassination of noted human rights activist Hriday Nath Wanchoo. In September 2013,Asiya Andrabi’s 3 nephews were arrested in Pakistan for terror links.
