Bret Clark
Safety, American football player
1961 –
Who is Bret Clark?
Bret Clark is a former professional American football player. Clark played for the in-state Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, for whom he was an All-American defensive back during his senior year of 1984. After college, he played one season with the United States Football League's Tampa Bay Bandits, then started at safety for three seasons with the National Football League's Atlanta Falcons. A serious and chronic knee injury ended his professional football career in 1988.
Bret Clark is also known for effectively ending the existence of the Tampa Bay Bandits. Clark sued his former team seeking back pay owed to him after the USFL suspended operations in 1986. The Bandits lost the suit but could not afford to fulfill his contract, so a judge ordered that the team's remaining assets be confiscated to repay the debt to Clark.
