Who is Fazlul Qadir Chaudhry?
Fazlul Qadir Chaudhury was the 5th speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, from East Pakistan. He belonged to Ayub Khan's Convention Muslim League. He was also the acting President of Pakistan from time to time when Ayub Khan left the country. His elder brother Fazlul Kabir Chowdhury was the leader of the opposition in East pakistan assembly. Quader was Preceded by Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan of Awami League.
In 1973, after the independence of East Pakistan, he was jailed in Bangladesh by the Awami League government of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for war crimes as collaborator of Pakistan Army during 1971. He died in the prison in 1973.
His elder son Salauddin Quader Chowdhury is now a fourth term member of the Bangladeshi Parliament. Forty years after independence he also lies in prison for the same case under the War Crimes Tribunal set up by the 2nd Awami League government of Sheikh Hasina Wajed, daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
