Who is Craig Masback?

Craig Masback is a retired American middle distance runner who specialized in the 1500 metres. After retiring he became a noted sports official.

A native of White Plains, New York, he graduated from Princeton University in 1977. Masback became US Indoor champion in the mile run in 1980. He won two bronze medals in the 1500 metres at the AAA Championships, in 1978 and 1981, and another bronze medal at the 1985 Pacific Conference Games. He also competed at the 1985 IAAF World Cup.

His personal best times were 3:35.28 minutes in the 1500 metres, achieved in 1982, and 3:52.02 in the mile run, achieved in July 1979 at Bislett stadion in Oslo.

Masback graduated from Yale Law School in 1994 and practiced sports law with Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. In 1997 he was hired as chief executive officer for USA Track & Field. He resigned in 2008 to become Director of Business Affairs for Nike's Global Sports Marketing Division. Masback joined NBC in 2012 to be an analyst for the middle and long distance events at the London Olympics.
