Who was Yelena Gorchakova?

Yelena Yegorovna Gorchakova was a Soviet athlete who competed mainly in the javelin throw event.

Gorchakova trained at Burevestnik in Moscow. She competed for the USSR in the 1952 Summer Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland in the Javelin where she won the bronze medal.

She repeated this bronze medal twelve years later in the 1964 Games in Tokyo. This was a disappointing result for her, as in the qualification she had set a new World Record of 62.40m that was not beaten for eight years.
