Education and Career

Solingen earned her B.A. and M.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and her Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1987.

Etel Solingen is the Tierney Chair in Piece Studies at UC Irvine. She was appointed to this position in early Fall, 2013. She succeeds Prof. Patrick M. Morgan in this position. Previously, she was Chancellor's Professor of Political Science and President of the International Studies Association. Solingen has served as chair of the IGCC's Steering Committee, President of ISA’s International Political Economy Section and APSA’s International History and Politics Section.

Solingen serves on several editorial boards and has received fellowships and grants from the SSRC, the MacArthur Foundation, and the USIP. Her book Nuclear Logics was launched at a presentation at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. It won the Woodrow Wilson Award for best book in Political Science, and the Jervis-Schroeder Prize for best work in International History and Politics.
