Who was Fawzi al-Ghazzi?

Fawzi al-Ghazzi, was a Syrian politician known for being the father of the Syrian constitution. Ghazzi was born in Damascus, he studied in Damascus and Istanbul, and served in the Turkish army during World War I. After the Arab revolt he was appointed secretary of the Interior Ministry of the Arab Government in 1920. He was a staunch opposer to the French mandate, and was imprisoned several times and exiled, among other nationalist leaders, to the island of Arwad. He was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1928, and the chairman of the Constituent Assembly, which was responsible for writing the first Syrian Constitution, which was approved by the Parliament on July 4, 1928. He was poisoned by his wife for unknown reasons.
