Who was Francis Hunter?

Francis "Frank" Townsend Hunter was a male tennis player from the United States of America. He is best remembered for his gold medal at the Paris Olympics, 1924, in the men's doubles event partnering Vincent Richards. He was ranked World No. 4 in 1929 by A. Wallis Myers of The Daily Telegraph and World No. 5 in another Myers list in September the same year.

Hunter graduated from Cornell University in 1916, where he was also a member of the Quill and Dagger society.

Hunter reached the singles final of the 1923 Wimbledon Championships but was defeated by Bill Johnston in straight sets and managed to win only four games, 0โ€“6, 3โ€“6, 1โ€“6.
