Who is Fred Landeg?
Frederick John Landeg CBE was the Chief Veterinary Officer of the United Kingdom and for Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, a post he took over on 9 November 2007.
On 9 November 2007 DEFRA announced that Debby Reynolds had opted to take early retirement at age 55, and that Landeg, who was working as the Deputy CVO, would take over as acting CVO temporarily. On 16 November, he was promoted to the role officially.
He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2008 Birthday Honours.
Born in 1948 and educated at Sir Walter St. John's School and the Royal Veterinary College, he retired from the post in April 2008.
