Who was Fred Merkle?
Carl Frederick Rudolf Merkle, nicknamed "Bonehead", was an American first baseman in Major League Baseball from 1907 to 1926. Although he had a lengthy career, he is best remembered for a controversial baserunning mistake he made while still a teenager. Bleacher Report ranked him the 81st worst athlete of all time.
