Who is Frederic H. Moll?

Frederic H. Moll, M.D. was named executive chairman of the Board of Directors of Hansen Medical in June 2010. Dr. Moll co-founded Hansen Medical in September 2002, where he served as the company’s CEO and a Director since its inception, and was named president in March 2009. In 1995, Dr. Moll founded Intuitive Surgical Inc., and served as the company’s first CEO. Intuitive Surgical is the world leader in surgical robotics. Prior to Intuitive Surgical, Dr. Moll co-founded Origin Medsystems, Inc., which later became an operating company within Guidant Corporation following its acquisition by Eli Lilly and Company in 1992. Dr. Moll served as medical director of Guidant’s Surgical Device Division from 1992 – 1995. Before co-founding Origin Medsystems, Dr. Moll invented the safety trocar, which fostered in modern general laparoscopic surgery, and he founded Endotherapeutics, which was acquired by U.S. Surgical in 1992.

Dr. Moll holds a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, a masters of science in management from Stanford University, and a medical degree from the University of Washington. Dr. Moll is a distinguished speaker and lecturer, and is the author of numerous scientific articles. He currently serves on the boards of several Silicon Valley healthcare companies.
