Who is Ghanashyam Vaidya?

Ghanashyam Vaidya is a general and laparoscopic surgeon working at Karnatak Health Institute [1], Ghataprabha, Dist:Belgaum, Karnataka, India.

The Karnatak Health Institute is a rural charitable institute is based on the concept of altruistic work with minimal wage for each employee. Visitors and patients to this remarkable institute have been amazed that such a philosophy still works in today's capitalistic world. It has a 350 bedded well equipped hospital with a multitude of social activities in the surrounding villages.

Dr. Ghanashyam Vaidya has dedicated his life to this institution, and works in the capacity of Joint Chief Medical officer and Governing council member of the institute. His professional interests are in endoscopic surgeries - gastroscopies, bronchoscopies, laparoscopic surgeries, TUR-P and others in a truly generalist practice. He has conducted over 25,000 surgeries spanning a career of 24 years.

He has made a significant contribution the medical education through both the traditional and novel methods of teaching.

In the year immediately after qualifying, he pioneered the concept of audio learning in India - with his General Surgery Cassette clinics in early 1980s. These are a legend amongst medical students in India.
