Who was Glenn Martin?
Glenn "Abe" Martin was an American football, basketball, and baseball coach. He was the fifth head football coach for the Southern Illinois Salukis in Carbondale, Illinois and he held that position for ten seasons, from 1939 until 1949. His overall coaching record at SIU was 31 wins, 42 losses, and 5 ties. This ranks him fourth at SIU in terms of total wins and tenth at SIU in terms of winning percentage.
On April 30, 1972, Southern Illinois' baseball field was dedicated in honor of Martin, who retired from the athletic department in 1971. Martin was the Saluki baseball coach from 1946-1964.
