Who is Greg Stockdale?

Greg Stockdale was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League during the 1920s.

A left footer, Stockdale started his career as a half back flanker and was first pushed up forward in the 1922 preliminary final, a place he remained in for most of his career. The following season he kicked 68 goals and was the league's leading goalkicker, breaking the record for the most goals kicked by a player in a season. It was also the first of three times that he led Essendon's goalkicking tallies. He won the 1925 Essendon Best and Fairest award and represented Victoria in interstate football on 8 occasions.

Stockdale joined Northcote in the Victorian Football Association in 1929 and by the end of the season was a member of their inaugural premiership side.
