Who was Gregorio Dati?
Gregorio Dati was a Florentine merchant and diarist best known for the authorship of The Diaries of Gregorio Dati, which represents a major source for the social and economic historians of the Renaissance Florence, alongside the diaries of Buonaccorso Pitti. Dati primarily traded in silk, but also in other commodities such as cloth and pearls. Gregorio Dati was one of the seventeen children of Stagio Dati and Monna Ghita. Dato and Monna Filippa were his grandparents and Fra Leonardo Dati was one of his brothers.
