Who was Harriet Dobbs?

Harriet Dobbs, a member of the family of Castle Dobbs, Co. Antrim, was from Dublin where she married her husband, Robert David Cartwright. He was the son of Richard Cartwright of Kingston, Upper Canada. The couple came to Kingston from Ireland in 1833. They had a daughter and four sons one of whom was Richard John Cartwright.

Harriet quickly became part of the social fabric of Kingston and, because of her husband's work with Archdeacon George Okill Stuart, she was drawn into charity work. She joined the Female Benevolent Society which provided much needed assisance for the sick and their families. This organization became a lifelong commitment to the FBS and its worthwhile causes.
