Who is Heather Maxwell?

Heather Maxwell is a versatile vocalist who sings in English, French, Portuguese and several African languages. She performs her unique blends of World Music, AfroPop, R&B, and Alternative rock worldwide, including such venues as the Chicago World Music Festival and the Festival sur le Niger.

In addition to vocals, she plays kamalen n’goni and balafon. Her 7-piece band, Afrika Soul is a fresh blend of African and American sounds and dancing. Band members have included Temi Awosogba, Mai Lingane, Seth Green, Robert Jospe, Matt Wyatt, Sam Wilson, Marthe Bolda, Bob Hallahan, Pete Spaar, Randall Pharr, and Charlie Kilpatrick. Heather also is a frequent performer with Robert Jospé's Inner Rhythm. Maxwell also performs an unplugged, acoustic trio version of her music as the Heather Maxwell Trio.

Also, she produces and hosts the award-winning radio program “Music Time in Africa” and is the Africa Music Director for the Voice of America.
