Who was Heinrich Setz?
Heinrich Setz was a German World War II Luftwaffe 138 aerial victories Flying ace and recipient of the coveted Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. A flying ace or fighter ace is a military aviator credited with shooting down five or more enemy aircraft during aerial combat. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership - for the fighter pilots, it was a quantifiable measure of skill and combat success. He was killed in action on his 274th combat mission in a midair collision with a Supermarine Spitfire on 13 March 1943.
