Who was Hoca Sadeddin Efendi?
Hoca Sadeddin Efendi was an Ottoman scholar, official, and historian, a teacher of Ottoman sultan Murad III. His name is transcribed differently: Sa'd ad-Din, Sa'd al-Din, Sa’adeddin, Sadeddin, etc. He was also called "Hoca Efendi", "Koca Hoca Efendi" and with the title of "Câmi'-ür Riyâseteyn".
When Murad became Sultan, Sadeddin became his advisor. Later he fell out of favor, but was appointed Sheikh ul-islam, a superior authority in the issues of Islam.
Sadeddin is an author of Tâc üt-Tevârîh, a history of the Ottoman Empire in prose and verse.
