Inez Barron

Who is Inez Barron?

Inez D. Barron is the City Councilwoman-elect of the 42nd district of New York City, representing East New York and its surrounding areas. She is currently state Assemblywoman for New York's 60th district, which includes the East New York, Starrett City, and Canarsie sections of Brooklyn. Inez Barron is the wife of Councilman Charles Barron.

Born in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Barron has been a community activist and a longtime educator since the 1960s, fighting for social rights and educational rights for African Americans and other citizens in Brooklyn and abroad. After assemblywoman Diane Gordon was charged with several scandals and eventually vacated the seat, Barron won the November 2008 election and became the State assemblywoman for the 40th district.

Due to term limits, Charles Barron could not run for re-election in 2013; Inez Barron ran instead and won. Charles Barron is expected to run for her vacant Assembly seat in this strongly Democratic district.
