Who was John Simpson?
John Simpson was an English-born footballer who played as a left back in The Football League in the 1940s and 1950s.
He started his league career with Huddersfield Town and then moved to York City, first playing for them in 1947–48. He went on to play over 200 games for the Minstermen.
In April 1970 he was appointed manager of Football League Fourth Division side Hartlepool United, and he remained as manager until March 1971.
