Who was John W. Mullin?

Professor John William Mullin was British academic and world expert in crystallization.

He was born in Cheshire on 22 August 1925, served with the RAF from 1945-48, then studied at the University of Wales, gaining a first class degree in chemistry in 1951. It was there he met Averil who became his wife. He then took a postgraduate diploma in chemical engineering at the University of London, and a PhD at the same place in 1955.

His career was at University College London, and he is particularly known for his textbook "Crystallization" first published in 1951. He was working on the fifth edition when he died on 11 March 2009.
