Jon Garth Murray

Who is Jon Garth Murray?

Jon Garth Murray was the second son of late controversial activist Madalyn Murray O'Hair, the first president and founder of American Atheists, Inc. in 1963. He was also the half-brother of the reverend William "Bill" Murray.

From 1986 until his death in 1995, Murray held the office of American Atheists as its de facto president. It was a title without power however, as his mother retained authoritative control behind-the-scenes.

Murray, a tall heavyset man with a speech impairment, was living with his mother Madalyn and niece/sister-in-law Robin Murray O'Hair in Austin, Texas, when all three of them were abducted at gunpoint, tormented, and brutally slain in San Antonio by one of their ex-employees, David Roland Waters.
