Who was Joseph W. Furber?
Joseph W. Furber was a politician from Minnesota Territory, a member of the Whig Party, and a former member of the Minnesota Territory House of Representatives, representing Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Furber was the first Speaker of the Minnesota Territory House of Representatives, a position he held at the territory's creation in 1849. He served an additional stint as speaker in 1857.
Furber served on the Board of Regents for the University of Minnesota from 1851 to 1855, and after Minnesota was admitted to the Union, Furber served twice in the Minnesota House of Representatives, in 1868 and 1875.
