Who is Kamal Habib?
Kamal Habib is a founding member and a former leader of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and a former Gama'a Islamiya leader. As one of the organizers of the assassination of Anwar Sadat he was jailed from 1981 to 1991, along with Al-Qaeda deputy Ayman Al-Zawahri who had been his classmate at Cairo University. In 2007 he was described as having become an expert on Islamist groups and a political analyst after giving up armed struggle and becoming a noted Islamist scholar. In 2007 he was a writer for the quarterly magazine of the Islamic Assembly of North America. Kamal Habib recently became one of the heads of the Peace and Development Party,which is the political wing of Egyptian Islamic Jihad.
