Who is Karim Aïnouz?

Karim Aïnouz is a Brazilian-Algerian film director and visual artist. Aïnouz's first feature debut, Madame Satã, premiered in 2002 at the Cannes Film Festival, Un Certain Regard. His following films, Love for Sale and I Travel Because I Have To I Come Back Because I Love You premiered at the Venice Film Festival, Orizzonti, in 2006 and 2009. In 2011 The Silver Cliff was presented in Cannes at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs. In 2008, Aïnouz directed Alice, a 13 episode fiction series for HBO Latin America. His short films and installations have been shown at numerous venues including the Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial, the São Paulo Biennial, the Sharjah Biennial and Videobrasil. In 2012 he was invited as jury at the Cannes Film Festival for the Cinéfondation and Short Films sections of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. and took part on the project Cathedrals of Culture, a 3D film project about the soul of buildings which features Wim Wenders as Executive Producer and Aïnouz as one of the directors. He shot, in Germany and Brazil, his next feature, Praia do Futuro, which premiered at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival.
