Who was Leonard Ashton?
Leonard James Ashton was the inaugural Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf. Born in 1915 and educated at Tyndale Hall, Bristol, he was ordained in 1943 and after a curacy at Cheadle was for nearly 30 years an RAF chaplain. From 1974 until 1976, he was Assistant Bishop of Jerusalem prior to the re-organisation that led to his elevation to the Episcopate.
