Who is Liza Monroy?
Liza Monroy is a writer in Santa Cruz, California. Her debut novel, Mexican High, was published by Spiegel and Grau. Her articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, the L.A. Times, Newsweek, Village Voice, Jane, Self, Bust and others. She earned an MFA in non-fiction from Columbia University School of the Arts, where she was also an instructor in the Undergraduate Writing Program. Monroy recently released a memoir about the three years she spent married to gay Middle Easterner who might otherwise have lost his citizenship.
