Who is Mahfuz Anam?

Mahfuz Anam is an editor and publisher of Daily Star, one of Bangladesh's mainstream English language newspapers. He is also the publisher of "Weekly 2000", a prominent weekly newsletter from Bangladesh as well as "Anandadhara", a popular entertainment fortnightly of the country. He was the publisher of "Prothom Alo", a leading Bengali daily.

Son of Abul Mansur Ahmed, a renowned satirist and politician of Bengal, Mahfuz Anam was born on 18 June 1950.He completed his M.A. in Economics from the University of Dhaka. Subsequently, he achieved a comprehensive expertise in media planning and media development, from a long career as journalist, editor and publisher in Bangladesh and as a media expert for UNESCO. Today Anam is also regarded a highly respected TV interviewer, invited to interview the Prime Minister and other highest level dignitaries of the country. Besides, he is regularly invited to speak in regional and international forum on governance, human rights, press freedom and related issues.

Mahfuz Anam was elected chairman of Asia News Network for 2007 at a meeting of the board members of the organisation held in Seoul.
