Who is Massimo Ceccaroni?

Massimo Ceccaroni is a retired Swiss-Italian football player. He played for FC Basel for very nearly his entire career. He is now a trainer at amateur club BSC Old Boys. His brother, Stefano, also played for Basel.

Ceccaroni grew up in Saint Johann. In 1977 he joined FC Basel's youth squad and eventually broke into the first team in 1987. The finest moments of his career were winning the Nationalliga B in 1994 and the Nationalliga A in 2002, Basel's first title in 22 years.

He is considered a cult figure in Basel, mainly because he stayed loyal to the club for 25 years but also because he never scored a goal.

FC Basel did not renew his contract in 2002 so he joined amateur side SC Dornach. After his retirement in 2003 he joined BSC Old Boys as manager.
