Who is Mohd Hayati Othman?
Datuk Mohd Hayati Othman is a Malaysian politician and a member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Pendang constituency in Kedah. He is a member of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party in the opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
Hayati was elected to the Pendang seat in the 2004 election with a 50 vote margin. This was a rare win for PAS in an election where it lost 20 of its 27 seats. Hayati increased his majority in the 2008 election. He had contested the seat in a by-election in 2002, but was defeated by Othman Abdul of the United Malay National Organisation.
In January 2010, Mohd Hayati was conferred the honorific title of Datuk by Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah.
