Who was Morris Tyler?

Morris Franklin Tyler was an American politician who was the 36th Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut from 1871 to 1873.

Morris Tyler was married to Mary Frisbie Butler. Their son, also named Morris Tyler, was later working in the telephone business and he was a professor of jurisprudence at Yale Law School. The older Morris Tyler was a wholesale boot and shoe merchant. He also served as Mayor of New Haven in Connecticut. He was a Republican. In 1870 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut and served between 1871 and 1873 under Governor Marshall Jewell.
