Who is Omar Saif Ghobash?

Omar Saif Ghobash is a businessman and diplomat from the United Arab Emirates.

Omar Ghobash sponsors Saif Ghobash–Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation, in memory of his father, Saif Ghobash, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was assassinated at Abu Dhabi International Airport in 1977.

His mother is Russian Liudmila Ghobash, who was the most high-positioned foreign-born female in the UAE in 1970-s to 1990-s.

After receiving funding from the Government of Abu Dhabi, Omar Ghobash was involved in 2008 in discussions with John Sexton on the opening of a campus of New York University in Abu Dhabi in 2010.

In 2008, Omar Ghobash was appointed as Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Russia, and presented his Letters of Credence to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on 27 February 2009.

Omar Ghobash speaks Arabic, English, Russian, French, Italian and Spanish.
