Who is Oren Gal?
Oren Gal is a Canadian baseball player who has played for the Modi'in Miracle in the Israel Baseball League, for York University in Toronto, for Team Canada at the Maccabiah Games, and for the senior Israel national side.
A promising baseball player at a junior level, Gal represented the Ontario Maple Leafs in the under-19 Canadian Elite Baseball Conference. On graduating from highschool Gal, an Orthodox Jew, turned down the opportunity to try out for baseball scholarships in the United States or Canada in favour of spending a year in Israel, attending Yeshivat Reishit in Bet Shemesh city. He returned to Canada to study psychology at York University, Toronto, but in 2006 tried out for the newly formed Israel Baseball League and was drafted by the Modi'in Miracle.
Following his performances for the Miracle, Gal was selected as part of the Israel national team for the European Baseball Championship Qualifier tournament at Karlovac, Croatia, in July 2008. Gal batted .529 for Israel's team and received the tournament MVP award.
In September 2012, Oren was invited to tryout for the Israeli team in the World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, but did not make it on to the team.
