His coaching record at United States Naval Academy was 13 wins, 4 losses, and 1 ties. As of the conclusion of the 2007 season, this ranks him 18th at United States Naval Academy in total wins and sixth at United States Naval Academy in winning percentage.

In his naval career he saw service in submarines, and commanded two boats during World War II, USS S-16 and USS Albacore.
