Who was Oscar W. Gillespie?
Oscar William Gillespie was a U.S. House Representative for the state of Texas.
Born near Quitman, Mississippi, Gillespie attended private schools and was graduated from Mansfield College, Texas in 1885. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1886 and commenced his law practice in Fort Worth, Texas. He was assistant attorney of Tarrant County from 1886 to 1888. He then served as prosecuting attorney of Tarrant County from 1890 to 1894.
Gillespie was elected as a Democrat from the Fifty-eighth District of Texas, and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving from 4 March 1903 until 4 March 1911. He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1910.
He resumed the practice of law in Fort Worth, Texas, where he died 23 August 1927. He is interred in Mansfield Cemetery in Mansfield, Texas.
