Who was Otilio Galíndez?
Otilio Galíndez, was a Venezuelan musician and composer.
From an early age Galindez demonstrated musical inclinations, and supported by his mother in song and poetry in 1957 he was brought to Caracas where he worked at the Central University of Venezuela, forming part of the University choir, with teachers like: Antonio Estévez, Inocente Carreño and Modesta Bor,which was an experience that motivated his musical creation to go even farther than before.
The young composer of fine music stood out quickly. In the oeuvre of Otilio Galíndez, christmas songs are predominate. His first composition was La Restinga, a Folk Christmas song. Among the composers other works were waltzes, serenades, bambucos and joropos, like: Pueblos Tristes, Flor de Mayo, Mi Tripón, and many others, His works have been interpreted by the most known popular Venezuelans singers and by other recognized figures of Latin America, such as Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés and Mercedes Sosa. Resided in Maracay from 1974 until his death. On Saturday, the 13th of June, 2009 in hours of the night, Galindez gave his last sigh in his Maracay home.
